| Police busy in collecting record of tenants, outsiders | | Directions issued to all police stations’ | | By Govind Chouhan Jammu | Sep 12 Following the arrest of Nahida and Maqsooda, who have been harbouring the militants , all the police stations across Jammu region have been put on high alert. The disclosures made by the duo that the militants have engaged a number of college going students especially girls as their conduits, the police have started verifying the antecedents of all the outsiders residing in the city including the students of the border districts studying in Jammu, According to sources, after the Maqsooda and Nahida, episode senior police officers have alerted all police stations and officers of all the districts have been asked to check their area of jurisdiction and verify the antecedents of the tenants and other outsiders including labourers, student and servicemen living in their territorial jurisdictions. Sources said the Director General of Police taking serious note of the recent incidents has directed the departmental officers to make a record of the tenants and outsiders who are living in their areas. Sources said police is also making raids in the hotels to collect the data of the visitors. According to the sources, after the interrogation of Nahida , Maqsooda and other militants, it has been established that the ultras have been using the students and other persons in delivering the consignments to the militants at selected destinations, the Police Department has issued directions to all its subordinate police stations to collect the detailed information about the presence of outsiders in their jurisdiction and their possible involvement in the militancy. Sources also added that police has also collected the records of the STD/PCO operating in their areas and also directed the owners to collect all the phone data of customers who visit their shops for telephone purposes especially in Border districts and outside. SSP Border, Rajinder Gupta when contacted said that the police is keeping a strict vigil on the activities of the anti-national and anti-social elements and have even started collecting data about the presence of non-locals in the area. SSP Reasi, JL Sharma said we have already prepared the list of the outsiders and the tenants who are living in Reasi district and are watching the activity of those outsiders who are working as labourers in the area. SSP Kathua, JP Singh said since the district is the gateway of Jammu and Kashmir state we have already started the exercise to get detailed information about the outsiders putting in the district. SSP Poonch, Jagjeet Kumar when contacted said ‘we have already collected the information of those outsiders putting up in the district while the exercise is on to collect information about those locals who are posted outside or pursuing studies in Jammu and other parts of the country. It may be recalled that only this year police arrested two ladies including a law student and a teacher for their links with the militants and also delivering the consignments to the ultras. How far the police will succeed in this exercise will be worth watching, the sources said adding that this exercise ought to have been started much earlier. The sources maintained that the police should make it obligatory to the house owners to give details of the tenants putting up in their houses and keep police informed about their activities time and again.
