| Govt creating facilities in villages to arrest rural migration: Azad | | | ’Far flung areas receiving focused attention in development’ Early Times Reporter Balakote | Sep 13 Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today said that remote and far off areas in Jammu & Kashmir that had remained neglected for long were now receiving focused attention in matters of development, adding that his development strategy aimed at creating facilities in villages to arrest rural migration. Addressing a large public meeting at Dhargloon border village here, the Chief Minister said that in 60 years the State had made tremendous strides in various fields but far flung areas lagged behind in the march for development. He said areas like Balakote did not receive adequate attention with the result that people in these areas remained developmentally deficient. He said ever since the coalition government assumed office in J&K, the situation was changed for the better. He said during the last two years since he was at the helm of affairs remote, far off and neglected areas have for the first time received focused attention in matters of development. Azad said his development strategy aimed at discouraging rural migration and creation of gainful employment avenues in villages itself. He said for the last several decades it had been observed that rural population was migrating to cities resulting in heavy pressure on already squeezing resources of cities as also causing adverse effect on economic development of villages due to shifting of affluent people. He said his government would concentrate on creating facilities and opportunities in villages and remote areas to arrest this trend. The Chief Minister said that the government had launched a comprehensive programme for development of villages in a phased manner. He said basic amenities like road connectivity, healthcare, education, drinking water and power were being provided in villages across the State so that people were benefited by development measures taken by the government for them. He said education facilities were extended to the doorsteps of people so that children of villages did not have to travel long distance to schools and colleges. He said in the coming years the focus of the government would be on consolidation of facilities in the expanded schools and healthcare institutions and creation of employment opportunities. The Chief Minister said that Balakote was agriculturally a fertile area with tremendous scope for development of horticulture. He asked people to take full benefit of the schemes launched by the government for promotion of horticulture. In response to the demand for creation of a tehsil at Balakote, Azad said that for creation of administrative units the government had appointed Bleoria Committee and asked local population to represent their case before the Committee. He, however, said that the Naib Tehsildar of Balakote would be entrusted with powers of Tehsildar so that small day-to-day revenue matters were resolved there and people did not have to go to Mendhar. Speaking on the occasion, Minister for R&B, Gulchain Singh Charak said that the government's main thrust was on rural road connectivity. He said connectivity leads to overall development of an area. He highlighted the achievements of the Azad led coalition government and measures taken by it for the welfare of the people. Minister of State for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Dr. Ramesh Chander Sharma, MP, Madan Lal Sharma and MLC, Lal Muhammad Sabir also addressed the public meeting.
