Rajouri | Sep13 The Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University has made a case before the state government to get this institution declared as the Central University as setting up of one such institution in Jammu and Kashmir has already been announced by Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh during his visit to Jammu on July 15.
This appeal was made to the Chief Minister Sh Ghulam Nabi Azad, who is also chancellor of the University, by the Vice Chancellor Sh Masud Chaudhary during his visit to the University campus here this evening.
The Vice Chancellor made a fervent appeal to the Chief Minster to use his influence and clout in the Centre to get the infant BGSB university recognized as a Central university for which it qualifies, for more than one reason; geographical location, backwardness of the region, equidistance from Jammu and Srinagar, rural backdrop and still evolving polices, programmes and infrastructure which are easy to mould under new dispensation.
Earlier the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone of two hostels, one for boys and the other for girls. He also inaugurated the Central Library, the DELNET. Sabrang Square, MBA block and the residential block for non-teaching staff. The Chief Minister addressed the staff and students of the University and later interacted with them informally till late in the evening in the picturesque setting of Dhanore mountain range where the university campus is perched.
In his address on the occasion the Vice Chacnellor, Masud A. Choudhary, gave an account of the many achievements the university has made since Dec. 2007 when the Chancellor visited the campus last. He announced, among cheers from the audience 100 % placement of the MBA passouts a rare feet for a university still wet behind its ears. The Vice Chancellor made special mention about the Academic schedules containing details of formal teaching, seminars, tutorials, guest lectures, recapitulation sessions and examinations which each programme of study of the university has evolved for follow up. This process of methodizing and patterning, he said, leaves no room for uncertainties, yet, he lamented, that it is not available in most Indian Universities.
In order to make assignments of teaching staff easy, purposeful and result- oriented the Vice Chancellor announced provision of Laptop Computers with dedicated internet connectivity to all teachers who are also provided 100% on-campus residential facility. Battling against time and resource constraints the university has installed Dedicated Radio Frequency Internet connectivity and DELNET (Developing Library Net work) The latter will connect users in BGSB university with, 1100 libraries in India and libraries of 6 overseas countries.
