NSF staging dharna today, demands 10 per cent reservation

In support of its demand of 10 per cent reservation in services in government and semi government departments apart from educational institutions, the National Sikh Front has decided to organize a protest demonstration here tomorrow in front of Divisional Commissioner’s office. The Front will also present a Memorandum about its demand to the President of India through the Divisional Commissioner.
This was announced by the Chairman National Sikh Front Varinder Jeet Singh while addressing media persons here today.
He said that every party including the Congress recognizes that Sikh community has contributed a lot in freedom struggle but keeping an eye on coming Lok Sabha election Congress party in the garb of Sachar Commission report has recommend 10% reservation to the Muslim community ignoring all other minorities including the Sikhs.
He also disclosed that the Sikhs are around 2% of the entire population of the country while the others account to 20 %, as such the Sikhs be recognized as the minority community.
Singh alleged discrimination with the Sikh community adding that the areas like Gagigarh, Camp Gole Gujral and Banhuwala dominated by the Sikhs have been deliberately kept outside the purview of the Jammu Municipal Corporation. ‘Despite repeated pleas for inclusion of Punjabi language in schools, he said, the government has done nothing in this regard so far. He said the Front would also seek support of SGPC, Amristar, Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Sikh Badal and several other Sikh leaders including S S Ahluwalia and all Gurudwara Prabandhak committees of the country for its demand of 10 per cent reservation in Government jobs and educational institutions.
