| Qazi may regain Forest deptt | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu|Sep 13 After massive changes in the administrative setup of the Forest department and institution of a high level inquiry the Forest portfolio is all set to be restored to the beleaguered Peoples Democratic Party leader Qazi Mohammad Afzal. Though there has not be any official communication between Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and president Mehbooba Mufti (who are away in America) but the clipped Minister Qazi Mohammad Afzal today indicated that he will rejoin his duties in the secretariat if his portfolios are restored to him honourably. Sources said that following a suggestion from the Congress president Sonia Gandhi, the Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has already made up his mind to restore the Forest department to Qazi Mohammad Afzal. Qazi, who is also Minister for Housing and Urban Development, has not been attending his office since September 4 when he tendered his resignation even though the Chief Minister had turned down his papers. Ever since no Minister has been looking after the department of Housing and Urban Development as the very next day the Chief Minister had urged Qazi to join back. The Chief Minister in his communication to Qazi Afzal had told him that Forest department was taken from him just to streamline its functioning and such there was nothing adverse against him. Sources said that following a brief conversation of Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti with the Congress president Sonia Gandhi at Nehru helipad in Srinagar on Monday, the Congress president is reported to have suggested the Chief Minister to restore the Forest portfolio to the PDP leader. However, before restoring the portfolio to the PDP Minister the Chief Minister had wanted to take up the cleansing operation in the department which now almost over. It is learnt that after the return of PDP leaders Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and Mehbooba Mufti to Srinagar, the forest department is most likely to be restored to Qazi Mohammad Afzal.
