The search is on for the new Police head in Jammu region as the present incumbent is likely to be transferred as he has already completed his three year’s tenure as Inspector General of Police Jammu..
Several names are making rounds in the corridors of the power but sources close to the Chief Minister said that the search is on for such an officer having a track record. Several senior officers are making hectic efforts and using their influence to get this coveted post.
If the sources are to be believed, the Chief Minister is himself searching the officer who could man the post to his entire satisfaction and in this connection has sought the records of some of the senior police officers.
Though several names are making rounds but the final decision would lie on the Chief Minister who is also holding the Home portfolio. The sources said that after examining the records, the Chief Minister may be able to finalize the name for the post of IG Jammu as the transfer of the present incumbent who has completed over three years tenure is likely anytime, most preferably in the next Cabinet meeting.
According to highly placed circles the names that are likely to be considered for the post include Ram Lubaya, S K Mishra, Ashok Gupta, Dilbagh Singh and P L Gupta..
According to sources, CM is also studying the records of some1985 batch IPS, who had already served in Jammu and the names of the two officers are on priority list.
The present IGP Dr Shesh Paul Vaid is credited to have done a commendable job during his three year long tenure and had established close contacts with the civilians besides organizing Police-Public meets in the region enhancing confidence on police. Dr Vaid having the longest stay at IG, had earlier also remained SSP and DIG Jammu.
Here it is to be mentioned that Ghulam Nabi Azad after taking over the charge of Chief Minister has appointed a large number of officers in different departments on good posts on the basic of their service record and now he also wants to repeat the same in the case of appointment of IGP Jammu.
The sources further said the Chief Minister is interested in posting only such an officer for the post having a track record and vast experience. Though several aspirants are making the last minute efforts to get this coveted post and have been working till late in the houses to focus government attention on their sincrerity and dedication to duty, the final decision lies with the Chief Minister.
The sources said that some of the aspirtants have started mounting pressure on the Chief Minister for getting this prize posting, only the time will tell as to who could succeed in the race.
