| Creation of homeland for KPs will check division on communal lines | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu, September 14 Panun Kashmir,a premier organisation of displaced Kashmiri Pandits announced in Jammu on Friday that it will oppose "any plan on dividing Jammu and Kashmir on communal lines." A resolution adopted at its annual convention here said that "we demand creation of a homeland to the north and east of river Jehlum in Kashmir for displaced Hindus which alone could defeat the plan of dividing the state on communal lines by either accepting Pakistan President's self-rule idea or that of the National Conference seeking restoration of greater autonomy." Moving the resolution, chairman of Panun Kashmir, Dr Ajay Chrungoo, said "our struggle for a separate homeland within the Kashmir valley is aimed at defeating the Dixon plan and its likes to divide the state on communal lines. It is also the only way to reverse the genocide against Kashmiri Pandits permanently." Another resolution adopted said that several lakh Pandits, after their exodus from Kashmir in 1990,soon after the rise of terrorist violence, have been living in abject conditions in one-room tenements which warranted immediate upgradation of living conditions in the camps. It also demanded an employment package for 25,000 Kashmiri Pandit boys who face severe odds while trying to eke out an earning. The resolution demanded adequate compensation for orchardists, agriculturists and traders who had suffered heavy losses with their exodus from the valley. It wanted a suitable law for protecting Kashmiri Pandit temples, shrines and other immovable assets which were being "grabbed" by the vested interest in Kashmir. several Hindu leaders, including Dr Durgesh Samant,Chief spokesman Jan Jagrut Samiti, eminent historian, Hari Om, prominent Kashmiri gynaecologist Dr Shakti Bhan, said that developments "since the initiation of peace process between India and Pakistan seems to be heading towards a situation where an atmosphere is being built for dilution of Indian sovereignty over Jammu and Kashmir." They said that "in case the political leadership in Delhi and Islamabad accepted either the Dixon plan or self-rule or greater autonomy it may result in the balkanisation of Jammu region on communal lines and thwart measures which could lead towards reversal of genocide of Kashmiri Hindus."Large number of exiled Kasmir pandits attended the day long convention . Several cultural programms and discussions were attended by eminent speakers and community leaders on the occasion.
