| AIU spurns JU’s request for inter-varsity TT tourney | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Sep 14 The attempt of the ISO 9000:2001 certified University of Jammu | to host all India inter-university sports competition in any discipline on its campus after a gap of 15 years has gone down the drain. The request by the JU to conduct this year’s table tennis competitions was turned down by the decision making body--Association of Indian Universities (AIU), which preferred Kurukshetra University to hold the event. “Although the AIU has not replied to our request, yet we have been given to understand that the event has not been allotted to us. This year’s fixture of the all India inter-university competitions has mentioned Kurukshetra University as the venue in the discipline of table-tennis,” said Romesh Magotra, Table Tennis coach of the Department of Physical Education, University of Jammu However, no representative of the JU to vigorously pursue hosting of the table tennis competitions with AIU was also one of the reasons responsible for the bad fumble. No representative of JU at the AIU meeting that decided the fixtures and venues for annual all India inter-university competitions took its toll. “Since a university is given a chance of representation at the AIU meeting every alternative year, next year will be our turn. I’m sure the JU would become host in one of the disciplines in 2008 by presenting a representation then,”said Dr Brij Beloria, football coach and incharge of the BPEd and MPEd course of the Department of Physical Education. It is pertinent to mention here that JU had hosted of the inter-university competitions in table tennis about 15 years back.
