| Azad invites PoK students at JU | | | Early Times Reporter Poonch|Sep14: Vowing the cut distance on both sides of the Line of Control shorter, the Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today said that he will make a case for the educational exchange between two parts of Jammu and Kashmir. To make a beginning in this direction, the Chief Minister said that he will take up the matter with the central government that students from Pakistan occupied Kashmir are allowed to study at Poonch campus of the Jammu University. The Chief Minister, who was addressing a function at Government Degree College here today, said that the Poonch campus would start functioning from next year with MBA and E-learning courses to begin with. He said a sub-centre of the university campus would also be set up at Surankote. Azad said that the government is also contemplating to set up additional campuses of the university at Kupwara and Leh so that students of all the far-flung areas of the state do not have to travel long distances for pursuing higher learning. He said that chain of schools, colleges and university campuses has been set up in the state to provide facilities of quality education and asked the youth to take benefit from these. The Chief Minister issued instructions to the R&B department authorities for immediately taking up the work on repair of Sheesh Mahal and town hall buildings besides the stadium at Poonch which were damaged due to 2005 earthquake. He announced Rs. 50 lakhs for repair of sports stadium to give fillip to sports activities in the district. The Chief Minister also visited the proposed site of the additional university campus at Dingla here. Vice Chancellor Jammu University Prof. Amitabh Mattoo, speaking on the occasion dwelt on the initiatives of Mr. Azad said that these have helped to make Jammu University a centre of excellence in the sub-continent. Minister for R&B Gulchain Singh Charak, Minister of State for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Dr. Romesh Chander Sharma, Member Parliament Madan Lal Sharma, MLC Lal Mohammad Sabir, prominent citizens, teachers and students attended the function.
