Three persons including District Manager SICOP involved in a cement racket were arrested by the police at Doda today and also seized a truck load of cement belonging to the SICOP. A Police spokesman said that Doda Police on a specific information that a truck bearing NO 1332-JK02E loaded with 240 bags of Ambuja cement of SICOP is being unloaded at a hardware shop of one Surinder Singh at Tondwah Doda conducted a raid on the shop and caught the culprits red handed. He said the driver of the truck namely Hari Charan Singh son of Gurbaksh Singh resident of Gho Manhasan Jammu and shopkeeper Surinder Singh son of Beli Ram resident of Tondwah were arrested on the spot. The truck along with 240 bags of Government cement being unloaded illegally at private shop was also seized. The spokesman said that during further questioning they disclosed that the government cement was unloaded from the truck on the directions of District Manager SICOP Doda Amit Singh. On further questioning the alleged accused disclosed that the market rate of Ambuja cement was Rs.295 per bag whereas the same was sold to the shopkeeper by SICOP officials at Rs.283 per bag and thus they have misappropriated government cement by means of criminal breach of trust causing huge loss to the state exchequer. The spokesman said that District Manager SICOP Amit Singh son of Shangu Ram Kotwal resident of Maleni Bhaderwah has also been taken into custody and a case FIR NO 124/2006 under section 409/407 RPC, 3/7 Essential Commodities Act has been registered in Police Station Doda. Investigation of the case is in progress and arrests of some more persons involved in this racket are expected.
