| Farooq decries lack of honesty among officials, politicians | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu| Sep 15 : Former chief Minister and National Conference Chief Patron Dr. Farooq Abdullah while decrying lack of honesty among Politicians and officials said that the former are being bribed by the later for getting key posts. In his typical flamboyant style he even narrated his own experience of having posted a woman police officer at Lakhanpur Post who after one of year of her posting, on his inquiry admitted to have made Rs 1O lakh. The National Conference chief patron was addressing a gathering here on Saturday on Engineers day. He said "it is unfortunate that all of us are dishonest" adding "officers bribe politicians to get the post where they could make maximum while the later charges as much as he believes that he would earn at the end of the day" However, twisting the subject in favour of officers, Dr. Farooq said actually they are forced to resort to corruption because they are being poorly paid. He said in an era of rising inflation, how an officer could at the same time maintain his status and fed his family. He said the circumstances force him to go for corruption even against their conscience. Highlighting the role of Engineers, he said they are the 'main pillars' on whom the development of the state is dependent. He also announced Rs 5 Lakh out of his MP Fund for the Institute of Engineering Chenni hemant. He called upon the senior people in the profession to device ways and means to facilitate the growth of the freshers in the profession. He said "they have to explore the unconventional areas for the new comers in the profession.
