| Hardcore HM militant surrenders | | 335 militants lay down arms in Doda district so far | | Early Times Reporter

A hardcore militant of HM outfit today surrendered before a joint team of police and army at Doda with large quantity of ammunition.
The regular meetings being conducted by Doda police with the parents of the active militants and respectables from different sections of society to educate and motivate the misguided youths to shun the path of violence and join the mainstream has yielded positive results.
As a sequence of these meetings, one more hardcore militant of HM outfit namely Baber Shiekh code Naveed Hassan radio code M-2 son of Murad Ahmed Sheikh resident of Pul Doda today surrendered before Doda police and 10 RR and 76 Bn CRPF. Sources said he handed over one AK rifle with two magazines and 60 rounds, one SLR with two magazines and 60 rounds and one radio set at the time of surrender. Sources said he was active in the areas of Marmat, Doda since 2005 and categorized as ‘’C’’ and had escaped from various encounters, raids by police and other security forces in the last three years. Reports said in district Doda, so far 335 militants have surrendered since inception of militancy. This year, so far 27 militants including top commanders of different outfits have surrendered. Sources said police has been regularly educating the peoples to motivate their misguided youths to join mainstream and avail the benefits of surrender policy formulated by government for the rehabilitation of surrender militants which include, cost of weapons surrendered by the militants, immediate grant of Rs.1.50 lakh, to kept in the shape of FDR in a bank in the name of surrenderee for a period of three years and Rs. 2000 as monthly stipend for three years after surrender. Sources said some more active militants are likely to surrender in the coming days.
