IGP seeks cooperation to weed out militancy

Srinagar | Sep 16: Jammu and Kashmir police chief has sought the cooperation of common people to weed out crime and militancy from society.
Interacting with the people of Panzalla and Danigwacha in north Kashmir district of Baramulla, once the hub of militants, Inspector General of Police Kashmir Zone, S M Sahai said the overall situation had improved in the valley.
He said because of active cooperation of the people, security forces and police had conducted a number of successful operations in the recent past.
''We still seek your cooperation in checking the crime and eliminating militancy'', he appealed to the people during the police-public meeting, first after more than 17 years.
At Panzalla, the people demanded a special recruitment rally to enable the unemployed youth get employment in the forces.
They also asked for setting up of a police post at Rehama to check the crime. Besides, they demanded providing additional manpower to the local police station.
Acquiring of land at Chak Gujri for construction battalion headquarters for Armed Police Lines was also discussed in the meeting.
The people of Dangiwacha appealed to Mr Sahi for construction of a stadium where the local youth could participate in different sports.
When the locals complained about timber smuggling, the Kashmir police chief directed the local officers to intensify patrolling in these areas and arrest the smugglers.
A number of other social and developmental issues, including developing Bosian as tourist spot and restoration of water supply to Rehama, were also raised by the people of the two villages.
