| Rs 26.07 cr more required for reconstruction of razed mosque | | | Early Times Reporter SRINAGAR | SEP 16 The reconstruction process of the mosque adjacent to a Sufi shrine at Charar-e-Sharief that was gutted in a major fire in 1995 is on with over Rs 26.07 crore required to complete the works. The total amount required for the reconstruction of the 'khankhah' (mosque), according to the recently-submitted application for administrative approval by the Jammu and Kashmir Project Construction Corporation (JKPCC) is Rs 1,604.36 lakh for the main work and Rs 1,003.04 lakh for additional renovation, official sources said. The mosque adjacent to the holy shrine of famous saint Hazrat Sheikh Noor-ud-din Noorani was gutted in a major fire in the wake of gunfight between militants and army in 1995. The additional works include the provision for ornamental cage work, wood carving, Khatamband ceiling, paneling, provision for central heating system, development of area in and around the shrine and 'khankhah', the sources said. An amount of Rs 475 lakh has been spent till July and the dateline for completion of the first phase is August 2009 subject to availability of sufficient funds, the sources said. The reconstruction of the 'khankhah' was initially started by the then Muslim Auqaf Trust in 2002 but could not continue. Thereafter, the government from 2005 to March 2007 funded the reconstruction work of 'khankhah' without having any approved scheme for the purpose in the plan, they said. Additional funds were provided and passed on to JKPCC through housing and urban development department. The scheme stands now incorporated in urban development and an allocation of Rs 1,200 lakh earmarked for 11th financial year plan with an approved outlay of Rs 300 lakh for 2007-08.
