| 3 labourers buried alive under mudslide | | | Early Times Reporter Doda | Sep 17 Three labourers were killed when they were buried alive under mudslide triggered due to continuous digging of earth near Dak Bungalow in the outskirts of Doda town, Monday morning. Giving details, official sources told News Agency of Kashmir that a local, Suraj Parkash son of Tara Chand of Prem Nagar, had engaged at least eight labourers to dig earth at the bottom of a hillock. The labourers were working without any permission from the concerned department; source said adding, due to the continuous digging, the hillock gave in. Four of the labourers were buried alive in the mudslide, they added. Locals and police rushed to the spot and launched a rescue opration. Sources told that one of the labourers, identified as 38 year old Dinesh Ram son of Om Parkash of Prem Nagar, was rescued from the debris alive after half an hour. The rescue team gave every thing to rescue to labourers from the mud but did not succeed. Three more labourers were recovered out of the debris after more than three hours; sources said adding, the doctors present on the spot declared them dead. The deceased labourers have been identified as Basant Raj son of Shiva, Doda, Angrez Singh son of Hans Raj of Nashla and Bittu son of Kansa Ram of Nashla. Sources said that police has registered a case against Suraj Parkash and started investigation. Tehsildar Doda, Dr Shabir Hussain Keen, who was present on the spot told that preliminary investigation revealed that it was an illegal construction being raised without seeking prior permission from the concerned authorities. As the earth was lose at this spot, it gave in as a result of which the mishap took place, he said adding that the matter was being investigated.
