| Compensation case; SHRC to file writ petition against J&K govt | | | Srinagar | Sep 17 Early Times ReporterJammu and Kashmir State Human rights Commission is going to file a writ petition in the high court against the government for not implementing its recommendations in a case related to grant of compensation to a bomb blast victim. Chairperson of SHRC Justice (Retd) M Y Kawoos directed the secretary of the commission to file a writ petition on its behalf as the administration had not paid the recommended amount of compensation to one Imtiyaz Ahmad Sofi, who had been permanently disabled in a bomb blast a few years back. "This is the first landmark decision taken by the commission," a statement issued by the SHRC said. Justice Kawoos passed the direction after hearing the complainant, who said the deputy commissioner concerned released only Rs 5000 as against Rs 75,000 recommended by the commission. The complainant, who is very poor and not in a position to earn his livelihood, refused to take the amount and approached the Commission again, the statement said. On February 17, 2004, the SHRC had recommended the government pay Rs 75,000 to Sofi.
