| Ray of hope for state hockey | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Sep 17 Through the 35 odd young players attending the ongoing preparatory coaching camp at KK Hakhu Stadium, here for the forthcoming sub-junior national hockey championship, the Jammu and Kashmir Hockey Association (JKHA) foresees a bright future for the game. The championship is scheduled to be held at Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh from September 27 to October 6. It was for the first time that such a big number of near 40 young boys turned up for the selection trials at the KK Hakhu Stadium from different parts of the state. “I was surprised to see such a good number of boys attending the trials that too from some new pockets like Hiranagar in district Kathua and SOS School Gole Gujral, here” said resident secretary of the JKHA, P D Singh. Finding these school goers in a mood to play hockey on state of the art astroturf, the Association immediately decided to allow 36 players to attend the camp as against the approved figure of 22 by the State Sports Council. “To give exposure to the freshers keeping in mind their interest and desire to improve, the Association has decided to spend from its pocket the boarding and lodging of extra 14 players during the 10-day camp,” said Singh. Those attending the coaching camp under the supervision of State Sports Council coach, Joginder Singh include one each player from districts of Anantnag and Poonch.
