Jammu |Sep 17 Former skippers Dhruv Mahajan and Kavaljeet Singh as also a couple of youngsters were seen actively attending to the nets sessions on the first-day of the 10-day selection process to pick-up 15 probable for the Ranji Trophy season ahead.
Against the expected 30 cricketers by the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association, the number was on higher side. However, only one selector, Nirmal Singh was present in the ground while the other one, Vidhya Bhaskar could not turn up because of pre-occupation.
“One of our selectors, Bhasker had to leave for Mumbai to attend a meeting of the BCCI, so he will be back by Thursday and join the ongoing selection process,” said joint secretary of JKCA Jammu wing, Sunit Sharma.
On the other hand the players were full of enthusiasm and were taking the net sessions in right earnest. “It is good that we have got a chance to come together. I’m confident that slowly and gradually they (cricketers) will start playing their best cricket. Most of Jammu cricketers have not got a chance to play good cricket this year to it will be good for them to sweat it out in the nets,” said Kavaljeet Singh.
Always active in the field, the young former captain, Dhruv Mahajan too was positive about the net sessions and was expecting good results in the season ahead. Among others, who attended today’s net sessions were Raman Dutta, Vijay Sharma, Pranav Mahajan, Inderjeet Singh, Vimarsh Kaw, Raman Thaploo, Anoop Magotra, Pardeep Bali and Jagtar Singh.
