| Azad invites separatists for participation in 3rd Round Table conference | | Asks gun wielding youth to shun violence, resort to dialogue for settlement of issues | | EARLY TIMES REPORTER SRINAGAR, AUGUST 15 : Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has appealed the separatist leaders to be ready to participate in the 3rd Round Table Conference so that edifice for lasting peace is laid replacing the era of violence and bloodshed and settlement of all issues peacefully through the medium of dialogue and interaction. Addressing an impressive and largely attended main Independence Day function at Bakshi Stadium here today Chief Minister said the time has come that everyone of us without any political and personal consideration rise to the occasion and seek peaceful atmosphere for peace, development and progress of the state. Asking the gun-wielders to shun the path of violence, he said history is witness that nothing could be achieved by bloodshed and violence. “Sitting across the table and resorting to talks is only means to even solve vexed problems amicably and not to talk of smaller issues”, he maintained. Congratulating the people on 60th Independence Day, he said that freedom which was attained, after the great sacrifice by thousands of people under the leadership of Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi and stalwarts like Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, Maulana Mohammad ali Jowhar, Sardar Patel and Maoulana Abul Kalam azad, laid the edifice for speedy economic, social and political development. He said presently India has attained a place of respect and repute in the comity of nations. Mr. Azad said that when he took over as Chief Minister, the state had been badly affected by October 2005 earthquake and Uri, Tangdhar, Teetwal, Poonch and other areas were mostly affected and about a thousand of human lives had been lost, many more including old, children and women wounded, thousands of residential houses, school buildings, hospitals and public infrastructure damaged and thousands of animals perished. Chief Minister said by the liberal and timely action of the state government, the situation created by earthquake was successfully combated and every affected family provided with temporary shelters before the onset of winter to avoid deaths on account of chill. Chief Minister said besides dealing with earthquake problems successfully new initiative of strong work culture was introduced to cleanse up the administration from menace of corruption and ensure political stability. He said unique legislation providing for confiscation of ill-gotten property of corrupt officials was enacted and action was taken under the provision of this law to confiscate the ill-gotten property of many corrupt officials. ‘Only two days earlier ten officials have been retire prematurely from government service for corruption and inefficiency’, he said. Chief Minister sought cooperation of all in his drive against corruption saying that war against corruption would continue till this stigma is removed from the face of the state. Mr. Azad said that another legislation banning defection by legislators from one party to another was also enacted to end the system of Aya Ram Gaya Ram. ‘Government has also enacted a law providing for downsizing of ministry to reduce the burden on state exchequer’, he said. He said government has also decided to award Chief Minister’s Gold Medal and cash prize of rupees one lakh to government functionaries rendering service in highest degree of honesty, dedication and merit. At every district Additional District Development Commissioner has been placed to monitor the progress and spending funds which has made the state first in the country to have such a system. ‘Proper funding and completion of schemes within prescribed timeframe and taking to double shift system of working for 550 projects for completion have been put into place’, Chief Minister said. Chief Minister said that the long pending demand for implementation of Wazir Commission and people’s aspiration for new administrative units have been accommodated and state cabinet approved |
