| 3-day Maha Yagya at ‘Uma Devi’ Temple Muthi commences today | | ‘Swami Svayamanda Ashram to start Sanskrit institute, says Aparna | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Sep 18 A 3- day annual Maha Yagya of “Maha Maya Mata Uma Devi,”is being performed at Swami Svayamanda Ashram lower Roopnagar Phase III Muthi from tomorrow on the eve of ‘Ganga Ashtami, Muthi. A large number of devotees and Sadhus have started arriving at the venue. Before the mass migration of Kashmiri Pandits from the valley a grand mela used to be held at Uttarsu (Uma Nagri) in district Anantnag, the permanent abode of Maa Uma Devi, where Yagya used to be performed for universal peace.A grand magnificent temple was constructed at a cost of Rs. 12 lakh by Swami Svayamananda, popularly known as ‘Bub’ among his disciples. The marble idol of the goddess Uma Devi was installed in 1981, with full religious rituals. But due to eruption of militancy in 1989-90 and mass exodus of Kashmiri Pandits , the temple was destroyed by the militants in December 1992. After migration, Swami Ji, the force behind in construction of temple at Kashmir and embodiment of divine qualities purchased a piece of land at Muthi here and once again started construction of another temple of ‘Divine Mother’ on the same pattern and style constructed at valley in this city of temples in 1994. Throughout the year devotees visit this temple. Chairperson of the Ashram Aparna Devi, while talking to this correspondent over phone, said, with the blessing of ‘Maa’ management has taken number of projects in hand, which include running of a health centre. The centre is providing free health services to the needy persons irrespective of caste, creed and religion. She further said, attempts are being made to convert this health centre into a mini- hospital, where all clinical facilities will be provided free of cost. Besides, the Ashram in its humble way is helping widows, orphans and destitute from time to time and in addition daily yoga classes are also conducted at the Ashram. She further said, as per wishes of the ‘Bab’ (Swami), who left this world for his heavenly abode of ‘Param Shanti’ on November, 29, 2005 a modern Sanskrit institute is to be started for Sanskrit learning, especially for younger generation to know its richness as it is being considered as mother of all the languages. She said proposed institute will be affiliated to a leading Sanskrit University of the country. |
