| 3 infiltrators among 5 militants killed in North Kashmir | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | Sep 18 Security forces claimed to have gunned down at least five militants, including two Pakistan nationals, in two separate encounters in North Kashmir, on Tuesday afternoon. Official sources said that security forces gunned down three militants near the Line of Control in Keran sector of Jammu and Kashmir. The militants were trying to infiltrate to this side of border when they were killed, official sources said. Giving details, a senior police officer said that security forces noticed a group of militants trying to infiltrate to this side of border in Keran sector. A close watch was kept on the movement of the armed militants, he said adding, as soon as they came under the troops firing range they were gaharoad and challenged. In the ensuing gun battle, which continued till wee hours today, three militants were killed. The identification of the slain ultras was yet to be ascertained. Three AK rifles, one pistol and some ammunition were seized from them. Meanwhile, a police spokesman said that two foreign militants of the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) were killed by security forces in a fierce encounter in Baramulla district of North Kashmir. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Viplav Kumar said that SOG and 57 Rashtrya Rifles (RR) launched a joint operation at village Khyar, Bandipora, about 55 km from Baramulla in the early hours today. When the troops were about to storm a particular house, militants opened fire while trying to escape in a near by field, he said adding, in the ensuing gun battle two militants were shot dead. The slain militants were later identified as Muhammad Abu Bakr alias Usman son of Muhammad Iqbal Rayai resident of Kabirwala Khandwal, Punjab, Pakistan and Muhammad Tariq Khan alias Sajid son of Shah Muhammad Khan resident of Tradkhal Pakistan occupied Kashmir (POK). Two AK rifles, two hand grenades, two pouches, eight magazines and 150 rounds of ammunition were recovered from the slain militants, the SSP said. In the meanwhile, Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and Army launched a joint operation at Khudhara woods after receiving specific inputs about the movement of the militants in the area, and official spokesman told the sources. During the operation, an encounter ensued between the militants and security forces which were going on when the reports last came in.
