| Gang rape, murder of minor student: Police produces challan against four | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | Sep 18 Jammu and Kashmir police today produced challan against four persons, including two non-local labourers, for allegedly killing a minor student after outraging her modesty. The challan in a sensational case of gang rape and murder was produced by the police before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Handwara, official sources said adding, that the investigation was completed within fifteen days and about 86 persons have been arrayed as a witness to the case. The accused have been identified as Azher Ahmad Mir alias Billa son of Ghulam Muhammad Mir of Shallapora Mukhdom Mohalla Langate, Handwara, Muhammad Sadiq Mir alias Saada Choor son of Ab. Rehman Mir of Bonpora Langate, Jehangir alias Jehangir Behari S/o Siraj Din of District Maida, West Bengal and Suresh Kumar alias Suresh Moochi S/o Sultan Ram of District Junjnu (Rajasthan). An official spokesman quoting SP Handwara, Dr Haseeb Mughal said that the accused kidnapped a school girl Tabinda Ganai, who was on her way from School to home, in the outskirts of Handwara town on July 20, 2007. The victim was forcibly taken to nearby orchards where she was raped and latter killed. The accused had later concealed her body in the bushes. The investigation of the case, SP said, was entrusted to a special investigation team headed by SDPO Handwara Manzoor Ahmed. During the investigation, about 16 suspects were rounded up and during the course of investigation, four accused persons confessed their involvement in the incident. Investigation of the case revealed that all the four accused persons were close associates for last two years. Azhar and Sadiq were said to be notorious criminals and extortion cases already were registered against each of them at Police Station Handwara. The other two accused namely Jehangir and Suresh Moochi are Carpenter and Cobbler by profession and had been staying in Handwara for a long time maintaining close association with Azhar and Sadiq. Police said that on the fateful day of the incident all the four associates met at the outskirts of Langate at Batapora-Wader at around 1300 hours. Since it was a Friday, there was no movement of people on the road as many locals were busy in offering Friday prayers. The four accused took lunch and consumed liquor, police said adding, and they (accused) in the meanwhile found the deceased walking alone. "The victim was dragged in the maize fields / Orchards where she was subjected to gang rape and later killed", the SP Handwara said adding, "using a local made knife one of the accused slit her throat leading to her death". "There is strong evidence to ensure conviction of all the four accused", he added.
