NEW DELHI, AUG. 16:

Things close to the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch division of Jammu region are reported to be hotting up, with louder noises by Pakistani officials against the alleged violation of ceasefire by Indian troops on August 15. Pakistani print media ran news stories on Wednesday charging Indian troops in the Poonch division with resorting to machinegun fire, causing serious injuries to two brothers in a border village in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK).
According to Pakistani officals, the fire was opened from across the Rangur Nullah near Taroti village of Abbaspur sector in the southern district Poonch at about 1:30 pm on Tuesday. And Pak Superintendent of Police, Zahoor Gillani, was reported to have identifed the victims as Shaukat, 24, and Shoaib, 18. Pakistan's Inter-Services PR official, Major Farooq Nasir Pirzada, was quoted as saying that the victims were extracting sand from a water channel some 400 yards inside the Pakistan-controlled territory when they were hit by machinegun bullets. They were admitted to the Combined Military Hospital, Rawalakot.

Major Pirzada admitted that sometimes both sides resort to "speculative fire" within their controlled territories, adding hurriedly: "But Tuesday's incident was the first clear violation of ceasefire". He charged Indian troops with targeting the boys "without any provocation".

Prime Minister of Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK), Attique Ahmed Khan, has condemned the ceasefire violation and urged the international community to take its notice. Khan, at the same time, expressed the hope that "good sense will prevail on other side (India) and there will not be any further escalation". Dawn quoted him as saying: "Unfortunately, while we talk of increasing the frequency of bus service between the divided parts of Kashmir, India is resorting to ceasefire violations".

A day earlier, on August 14, the PoK Prime Minister, in his speech at a function in Muzafarabad to celebrate Pakistan's Independence Day, talked of Indian Kashmir's merger with Pakistan. He announced naming Kohala road after the name of Founder of Pakistan, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, as Quaid-e-Azam Highway. This road was constructed by Maharaja Partab Singh in 1890. It links Jammu and Kashmir State with Pakistan via Srinagar-Chakothi-Muzaffarabad-Kohala to Murree, onwards Islamabad.
Attique Khan also announced naming of the only existing ost-graduate government girls college in Muzafarabad after the name of 'Mother of the Nation', Fatimah Jinnah, as Fatimah Jinnah postgraduate girls college. He also announced institution of Nazriya-e-Pakistan and Takmeel-e-Pakistan awards as part of his government's ideological vision. These awards will be given on October 24 this year. October 24 is the founding day of PoK government.
