Let Azad, Mehbooba resolve threats to coalition: PDP leader

Senior leaders of Congress and the PDP seem to be worried over the fresh conflict having developed between the two ruling coalition partners and want the leadership of both the sides to discuss the irritants and resolve them. The relations between the two sides got strained with the Chief Minister divesting Qazi Mohd.Afzal of the forest portfolio and on account of a serious cognizance the Agriculture Minister,Abdul Aziz Zargar, took of the attitude of the R&B secretary,Shailender Kumar while he was discussing official matters with Mohd.Khalil Band,Minister of state R&B.
While the Qazi wants the forest portfolio back Mr Zargar had written a letter to the Chief Minister that Shailender Kumar be sent to the centre on deputation.
General secretary PDP,Nizam-ud-Din Bhat, said today “these irritants need to be resolved in the interest of people.” He said “Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad should discuss both the issues with the PDP Chief, Mehbooba Mufti so that whatever misgivings existed were resolved and removed.”
The Chief Minister, according to sources close to him,is in no mood to reply to the Qazi’s second letter in which he had alleged that the forest portfolio was taken away from him as he had not obliged a Delhi based business house which wanted to set up amusement parks and residential flats in the forest area. The sources said that the Chief Minister,in his reply to the Qazi’s first letter had clearly indicated that after clearing the mess in the forest department and the corporation the forest portfolio would be restored to the Qazi.
A senior Congress leader said that since Mr Azad had conveyed to the Qazi that the forest portfolio would be restored to him after removing various skeletons from the forest department and corporation Qazi should resume his work and he was already holding several key portfolios.
Another congress leader said that Mr Zargar should have discussed the development that took place when Shailender Kumar and Mohd.Khalil Band exchanged hot words with the Chief Minister instead of going to the press. He said that by leaking out the contents of his letter to the Chief Minister the PDP leaders were simply trying to gain political mileage out of it.
However,Nizam-ud-Din Bhat said “it is not the question of seeking any political mileage. The PDP is in the Government but it has to care for the peoples’ welfare and the dignity of its ministers.” Mr Bhat said that “this was not the time for the two sides to stand on ego.we have to work together and the only way out was a meeting between Mr Azad and Mehbooba.”
He said “I know both of them and once they sit together all issues, rocking the coalition, could be resolved.”
