Two Lashkar -e-Toiba (LeT) militants were killed by a joint team of security forces near Chinote green colony in Bhaderwah in Doda district on Tuesday in a marathon gunfight which lasted over six hours.
A J&K police encounter specialist Sub inspector Shiv Krishan Sharma was also injured in the operation and was airlifted to Jammu medical college along with another injured police man Rajesh Kumar (PSO).
According to police "two militants belonging to LeT were killed by security forces and two policemen were injured in the operation near Chinote in Bhaderwah in Doda district. The operation started around 9.00 a.m and lasted over six hours, the police spokesman said.
Meanwhile, the dare devilry of the injured police officer was on display even while he was wheeled inside operation theatre inside Jammu Medical college after he was airlifted to Jammu from the scene of action.
The police officer was seen giving instructions to his colleagues participating in the operation in Bhaderwah on his mobile phone and was motivated to take on the militants.
The gallant officer, seen with a bandage on his face said, " he is confident his team will surely eliminate hiding militants and he is eagerly awaiting for the good news from their end".
The operation was launched by the joint team of security forces on a tip off that a group of militants was hiding in the area around 9.00 a.m on Tuesday morning.
The police sub inspector along with other security personnel was in the forefront when he was hit by the mirror shards on his face and eyes after a bullet pierced it.
Promoted to the rank of Sub Inspector in March 2005 in recognition of his extra ordinary performance Shiv Krishan Sharma, a local resident, had joined police service as special police officer and rose to the rank of Sub Inspector. According to police records he had performed key role in major anti-militant operations in Doda district and was instrumental in the killing of over 100 dreaded militants of various militant outfits."Mere mention of his name spell doom for militants operating in the region", a senior police officer said acknowledging role played by the sub inspector in eliminating over 100 dreaded militants in the Doda region.
He is also the proud recipient of GoC-in–C medal. Sub inspector Shiv Krishan Sharma was also awarded prestigious medal by then deputy Prime Minister LK Advani for his gallantry. (KIP)
