| Prof Lokesh Verma is new Director Physical Education | | | Early Times Reporter JAMMU |Sept 19: In a surprise move giving an unceremonious exit to Prof Keshav Sharma, Director Business School, as Director Physical Education and Chairman Campus Sports Committee, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jammu, Prof Amitabh Mattoo today relieved former of his additional charge. Head of the Department of Education, Prof Lokesh Verma has been made the new Director Physical Education. Prof Verma, who has also been given the charge of Chairman Campus Sports Committee, was `instructed’ to take immediately from his predecessor this morning. It is to pertinent to mention here that the Interview Selection Committee for selecting two adhoc sports teachers in Directorate of Physical Education, which was to meet at 2.30 pm today with Prof Keshav as Physical Director surprised many when Prof Lokesh turned up in the interviews as part of his new assignment.. The Director Physical Education was the second major assignment which has been taken back by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Amitabh Mattoo from Prof Keshav. Last year, Prof Keshav was relieved from the additional charge of Dean Student Welfare. The order, which was issued this morning by Deputy Registrar (Establishment), Neeraj Sharma and signed by the Registrar, Prof G S Sambyal read: In the interest of administration, Prof Lokesh K Verma, Head, Department of Education, shall function as Director, Physical Education and Chairman Campus Sports Committee in addition to his own duties, relieving Prof Keshav Sharma of the additional charge with immediate effect. When contact, Prof Lokesh Verma confirmed that he has taken over as Director Physical Education and Chairman Campus Sports Committee this morning. “Yes, I have taken over as Director today,” said Prof Lokesh Verma. When asked about his priorities after taking over the news assignment, he said, “in the list of my priorities is improvement in the prevailing system of functioning of the department as also to improve facilities for the sportspersons on the campus. I also want to enhance sports activities in the University and its affiliated colleges with the support of my colleges and staff,” said Prof Verma.
