| SAI allots Women Sports Festival to J&K | | | Early Times Reporter JAMMU, Sept 19: Giving impetus to the sports in the state, Spots Authority of India (SAI) has asked Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council to organize Women Sports Festival in four disciplines of hockey, kho-kho, basketball and gymnastics in the middle of December. It is for the third straight year that the autonomous sports body has been entrusted with the job to host national event in winter capital. “It is because of the successful conduct of competitions for two consecutive years that SAI has again assigned the festival to the Sports Council for third time in a row,” said Sports Officer (Jammu) of the State Sports Council, Krishan Sharma. In fact the organizing agency at the national level—SAI allot such national events considering the infrastructural facilities available in various states. “Since SAI guidelines says that the host state must have an indoor hall for gymnastics so we have the same. Whereas in kho-kho, hockey and basketball there is sufficient infrastructure in Jammu,” he added. The preparations for the forthcoming national event may get underway in mid October but the Sports Council has already pulled up its socks to live up to the expectations of SAI and make the festival another success for the third straight time. “The process to initiate selections and the coaching camps would start by the next month so as to field host teams in the four disciplines,” informed the Sports Officer.
