| Surgery in moving eye | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu |Sep 19 Doctors at Military Hospital Jammu performed highly advanced cataract surgery in the form of suture less phacoemulsification surgery without giving injection for anesthesia. Lieutenant Colonel Shrikant Waikar who is a super specialist trained at Sankara Nethralaya Chennai performed this surgery under topical anesthesia that is by using just a few eye drops to prevent any pain. The surgery was performed in a moving eye. The patient who under went this surgery was blind in one eye due to cataract. She regained her complete eye sight on the very next day after surgery. In the advanced phacoemulsification technique the operation is performed through a small 2.8mm incision and a foldable lens is implanted. No stitches are given. Usually the eye has to be anesthetized by giving an injection before performing this surgery. This injection can have a number of complications like haemorrhage and even a perforation of the eye ball. By performing this operation using eye drops instead of injection for anesthesia all the complications of the injection can be prevented.
