SRINAGAR |Sep 19 : People's Democratic Party (PDP) youth wing president and MLC Syed Basharat Bukhari has called for sustaining the ongoing peace process between India and Pakistan in order to ensure peace and stability in the region and also to find an amicable solution to Kashmir problem.
Bukhari, who is on a study tour to United States expressed these views during his interaction with senior lawmakers and foreign office officials in Washington and other cities. Among those whom he met included member of House of Representatives Joseph Pitts who also heads Kashmir Forum and Karen Finkler Adviser in US Foreign Office. Giving detailed account of the prevailing situation in Kashmir, the PDP leader said that the coalition government first headed by Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and now Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi made tremendous progress towards peace and reconciliation in the state. He said that landmark developments like the introduction of Srinagar-Muzaffarabad and Poonch-Rawlakot bus services and other CBM's gave a flip to the peace process. "This process is in crucial stage and needed to be not only consolidated but also made more meaningful", he said.
Bukhari emphasized that the internal situation in Pakistan should not come in the way of finding an amicable solution to Kashmir issue. "Pakistan 's stability was must for peace in the region and the process initiated three years ago should not get derailed with such events", he said adding that people of Kashmir yearn for peace after witnessing mayhem and bloodshed for last over 19 years. The PDP leader also visited Los Angeles, Kansas City, Milwakee and is scheduled to visit New York and other cities. He is part of a five member delegation of legislators from different parts of India. All these legislators have been invited by US State Department to take a study tour of the country.
