Overloading goes unabated, officials allegedly involved, admin in deep slumber | | | Rajesh Tandon Early Times Report
Poonch, Aug 24: Although transport authorities claim of streamlining the overloading of buses, but these claims prove hollow as overloaded vehicles ply on routine affair on various routes in Poonch especially on Prade to Banvat route. Locals lamented that with every passing day, the traffic scene in Poonch district is getting chaotic as the over loaded TATA sumo plying on Prade to Banvat route goes unabated. Local said after much struggle people succeeded to get the bus service reinstated on the road after some days but the service once again got snapped reasons better known to the authorities. "The overloaded Tata Sumos, auto-rikshas and buses plying on roads continue to bother the passengers, as there is no other alternative left to people of area but to be depend on private transport which for its vested interests often prefers overloading," Vijay Kumar added. Another local lamented that one can see overloaded vehicles on Parade Ground to Banwat, Ajote Jhulas and other routes but official concerned are least bothered. According to the locals the taxis and TATA Magic having a total capacity of 7 passengers only are loaded over with 19 passengers which not only makes vehicle unstable but also may prove fatal for people travelling in it. Locals alleged ARTO Poonch and tehsil administration Banvat having failed to put a curb upon overloading on said route. They alleged traffic police, J&K police and ARTO Poonch may have some vested interest that's why they didn't allow mini bus/bus to ply on this route. They appealed to state transport commissioner and transport minister to take this matter personally and provide basic facilities to the people.
