| Rift to affect electoral prospects of Cong, PDP | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar| Sep 20 Senior leaders of Congress and the PDP feel concerned over the endless conflict between the two ruling coalition partners. An interaction with several leaders of the two parties revealed that they felt suffocated with day to day rift between the two sides which could affect their performance during the next Assembly poll. A senior PDP leader said “it is unfortunate that instead of concentrating our attention towards the development of the state and towards mitigating problems of the people we have trying to outwit each other.”In this connection he referred to the resignation of Qazi Mohd. Afzal, from the cabinet after he was divested of his forest portfolio and said that “ neither the Chief Minister has accepted his resignation nor persuaded him to rejoin the cabinet.” He said the delay on the part of the Chief Minister in taking a decision on the letter written by Abdul Aziz Zargar demanding sending Shailender Kumar, secretary R&B,to the centre on charge of his misbehaviour with a junior Minister. He said that both these issues had added to political uncertainty in the state.Asked whether this uncertainty will weaken the congress the PDP leader said that it will affect both the congress and the PDP. Two senior Congress leaders, one of them being a legislator, blamed the PDP leadership for creating problems for Mr Azad who was keen to step up pace of development and wage a war against corruption. However, they admitted that the Chief Minister also had not been able to keep the PDP leadership in good humour. They too agreed with the PDP leader’s contention that the ongoing rift between the two coalition partners will increase peoples’ dismay over the Government’s performance thereby preventing either of the two to win even a simple majority in the Assembly poll. The PDP leader hoped that on their return from the United States Mufti Mohd.Sayeed and the PDP Chief,Ms Mehbooba Mufti, will spend some time in resolving the irritants.Leaders of both the parties said that any further delay in removing misgivings that continue to threaten the survival of the coalition Government may damage the prospects of both the parties during the next poll.
