| Two days national seminar begins at JU | | | Early Times reporter Jammu | Sep 20 Two days national seminar on “Women and violence: Challenges and concerns organized by the centre for women studies, university of Jammu .Eminent delegates from all parts of the country are participating in the seminar. Director, Centre for women studies centre, Poonam Dhawan in her inaugural address, gave an outline of the objectives of the seminar. She emphasized that the vulnerabilities and marginalization of the women need to be addressed and such seminars can go along way in generating awareness and bringing out issues that need our attention. Vice chancellor Amitabh Mattoo presided over the function and in his presidential address, he said that women should act as peacemakers and should create movements against violence. He further added that a combination of academics and activism can provide a strong base for creating culture of harmony and multiculturalism. The speakers who spoke on the occasion included Prof. Jaya Indersain, member UGC National Consultative Committee and former professor and head , NIEPA, Sushobha Barve, Director , Centre for dialogue and reconciliation , Shdeba George , chairperson, Sahrwaru womens action and resource unit Ahmedabad. Vibhuti Ubbott, Research officer, Centre for women studies, University of Jammu presented the vote of thanks.
