| Major Thomas, Sarabjit decorated posthumously | | | EARLY TIMES REPORTER
POONCH AUG-16:
Major James Thomas and Comany Havildar Major Sarabjit Singh of 10th Battalion of the Sikh Light Infantry were decorated posthumously for displaying exceptional courage and valour in active operations during the commemoration of Independence Day here yesterday.
The duo sacrificed their lives on January 28 last during a fire fight with a group of heavily armed Pakistan trained infiltrators in Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district, while Major Thomas was awarded the Kirti Chakra, CHM Thomas was decorated with Shaurya Chakra posthumously.
The dynaism motivated their command to take on the operational situation under challenging circumstances on January 28 last which led to the successful elimination of six hard core terrorists in a three day long operation in May 2005.Both Major Thomas and Sarabjit Singh were also involved with another operation which led to the elimination of six Pakistan trained terrorists in Krishna Ghati area of Poonch district.
