| Hakeem for powerful board to issue driving licenses, fitness certificates | | RTA realizes Rs.14 cr revenue in five months | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar|Sep 20 Government contemplates to introduce colour-coding system of passenger vehicles for specific routs in the capital cities of Jammu and Srinagar. The Government also decided to launch week long drive from tomorrow against those drivers who not wear proper uniforms. The licenses of defying drivers will be canceled. This was announced by the Minister for Transport Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen at a high level officers meeting here today. The Minister on the occasion constituted two high power committees. One committee would suggest replacement of 407 minibuses by modern buses in the cities of Srinagar and Jammu on the pattern of Bangalore city. The second committee would ensure proper seating adjustment of the mini buses plying in the cities. Hakeem Yaseen said that due to various steps taken by the government the revenue realized by the Regional Transport Authority Kashmir, touched Rs. 14 crore during last five months. He said “government plans to reconstitute the fitness and licensing boards in the state so that occurrence of traffic incidents are minimized”. He stressed on checking of over loading and implementation of other traffic rules. He said two flying squads were constituted for South Kashmir and North Kashmir to check the menace of over loading. He said the newly created Lower Munda Traffic Tool Post has realized fines of Rs.3.34 lakh on account of over loading during last 9 days. The Minister also reviewed the transport facilities being provided to the people of Srinagar city in view of the holy month of Ramadhan. He directed the concerned authorities for regulating the transport system smoothly in Srinagar city up to late hours. He said more staff and vehicles would be provided to the ARTOs of the state to ensure smooth plying of traffic and checking of over loading. He directed for conducting survey of hungry routs so that more passenger services are operated in the respective areas. He underscored the need for taking stern action against the fake registration holders adding that to check the fitness of vehicles, technical staff from other engineering department would be provided to the transport department. Secretary Transport Daleep Singh, Director State Motor Garages G. R. Loharwal, RTO Kashmir . Mohammad Iqbal Mir and senior officers of the transport department and its line departments attended the meeting.
