| CM announces ‘development bonanza’ for Kupwara | | | Early Times Reporter Kupwara|Sep 20 Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has said that additional funds would be mopped up for infrastructure development projects that could be completed within six months. He asked the planning & development department to prepare a list of such projects throughout the State so that work on their completion could be speeded up. The Chief Minister was making the mid-year appraisal of development works in Kupwara district at a meeting of the District Development Board here today and announced on spot release of funds for several important infrastructure projects like bridges, roads and hospitals to complete these by March next. Minister for Tourism, PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Muhammad Dilawar Mir who is also the Chairman of the Board, legislators Sharifuddin Shaariq, Mir Saifullah, Kafil ur Rehman, Sofi Ghulam Mohiuddin, Qaiser Jamshed Lone and Muhammad Sultan Panditpuri, Vice Chairman, State Advisory Board for Pahari Speaking People, Shabir Ahmad Khan, Financial Commissioner, Planning & Development, S. S. Kapur, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Anil Goswami and Secretaries and Heads of various departments were present. The Chief Minister highlighted the need to prioritize the ongoing projects for completion and said that focus should be laid on those projects which have been stuck for want of some money and could have been otherwise completed in a couple of months. He said money for such projects would be made available by mopping up resources so that people at large were benefited. In the bridges sector, the Chief Minister released Rs. 50 lakhs for Mughalpora Bridge and Rs. 56 lakhs for Trehgam Bridge to complete these by November this year. He announced release of another Rs. 50 lakh for completion of Nowgam Bridge by March next. For the Kalamchakla Bridge, he said 100% funds have been released and the bridge would be completed by March 2008. He said funds would also be released for the completion of Mawar Kutalir Bridge and Manzgam Panzgam Bridge to be completed by March and August 2008, respectively. The Foot Bridge at Jaggarpora, he said, would be completed by the end of this month. The Chief Minister announced Rs. 60 lakhs for improvement and maintenance of old district headquarter roads of Kupwara and Rs. 20 lakhs for Handwara town roads. Besides, he said another Rs. 10 crore were released for reconstruction of PWD related works damaged by the 2005 earthquake in Kupwara and Baramulla districts. He asked officers to send to the concerned legislators detailed status report about road projects in the district.
