Early Times Reporter Jammu | Sep 21 It was an easy win for four time Chandigarh state champion, Dheeraj Arora of RBI, who beat young Jayesh Singh in straight easy sets to claim the Ist Devinder Sharma (Munna) memorial state championship the final of which was played at Indoor Complex, M A Stadium, here this evening. Otherwise aggressive Jayesh was no match for Dheeraj who had a lot of experience playing at the national level. Dheeraj won the final easily 11-4, 11-3, 11-1. Playing for the first time in a state level championship, Dheeraj was happy to win the state title. Belongs to Amritsar in Punjab, Dheeraj is a four time Chandigarh state champion and also a junior national medalist in the nationals. He also holds number two position in the RBI table tennis team. Dheeraj was recently transferred to Jammu branch of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Minister of State for PHE, Flood Control and Irrigation, Ramesh Sharma was chief guest in the final and prize distribution function. He recalled the young engineer Devinder Sharma and paid him the tributes. Chief Engineer PHE, V K Goswami, SE (Urban )PHE, Superintending Engineer(Rural) Ashwani Sharma, Executive Engineer (city), Prem Kumar, Executive Engineer (Akhnoor), Vinod Sharma, working president of the Table Tennis Association, VK Magoo and president Diploma Engineers Association, R S Jasrotia and a number of engineers from other ranks. The tournament of which Rajan Sharma was organising secretary was conducted by Satish Gupta, Ravish Vaid and Menu Sharma. Consolation prizes were given away to the upcoming players, Karan Gupta, Jannu, Jeet Raj Kalsi, Nandani, Preeti Gupta, Sandeep and Vipul.

Sub-junior girls: Shzar bt Lavanaya Sharma 7-11, 11-3, 11-3, 11-9. Sub-junior boys: Jayesh bt Shorya Sharma 9-11, 11-6, 11-4, 11-8. Junior girls: Shzar bt Nitani Bakshi 11-5, 6-11, 11-4, 11-8. Junior boys: Shorya Sharma bt Jayesh Singh 11-7, 7-11, 11-3, 13-11. Women’s singles: Shzar bt Nidhi Arora 14-12, 11-9, 9-11, 11-5.
