Within voices against Army in valley, Kathua Sarpanches eulogize it for 'much needed' help
Local communicate their gratitude to Army's help to Governor of State

kathua, Sept 1: While security forces especially army is being targeted by some elements working at the behest of separatists forces in valley, the Sarpanches from Border Area Hiranagar sector have words of appreciation for Army for its unexceptional but significant role in launching development works/projects undertaken by 2/3 Gorkha Regiment in 55 border villages under Sadhbhavana Yojna. They also have communicated their gratitude and admiration to Army's help to the Governor of State
According to sources, the sarpanchs and panchs of 55 villages of Hiranagar and Kathua sectors have written a letter of appreciation to Governor N N Vohra and have specifically highlighted the development works initiated by the Regiment during its tenure in border area Hiranagar.
While talking to Early Times, one Sardar Singh, Sarpanch, informed that 2/3 Gorkha regiment provided number of facilities to schools, villages like books, street lights, roads, passenger sheds, sports grounds/equipments and even organized special training for unemployed youths to join Army for those who are aspiring for it.
Singh said, "Good work must always be appreciated otherwise it will be mere thanklessness on our part and the appreciation will also work as an encouragement to security forces."
He added that the villagers felt thankfulness to the unit for providing help to students and for launching various developmental works in various villages. He also appealed President of India, Supreme Commandant of security forces to honor such forces who are working for development of the border villages where the local administration fails to reach.
Ashok Kumar, a local from border village said that the various ranks including the top ranks of regiment personally visited villages to sort out dearth of facilities and to mitigate the suffering of the people instantly. He also added besides development, medical facility and free transport services were also provided to rural border people.
While expressing gratitude to the regiment, another border resident Ghansham Sharma said, "Army besides defending our borders also is working for people either in Kashmir or Jammu but some people with vested interests have wrongly started a campaign against security forces -Army and other para-military forces." Mohinder Paul, Balbir Singh, Kuldeep Raj, Dwarka Nath, and many other sarpanch, panchs and numberdhar were seen humming similar tones and lauding Army's role in development of border villages.
