Early Times Report Srinagar, Sept 2: Apprehending escalation in violence, the authorities on Friday re-imposed curfew in most parts of Kashmir while restrictions were in place elsewhere in the Valley, while scores of people were wounded in daylong clashes, police and reports said. While curfew was imposed in Srinagar and other district headquarters, restrictions were in place in Budgam, Ganderbal, Bandipora and Handwara. Despite heavy deployment of security forces, the people took to streets in various areas triggering clashes, which were going on till reports last poured in. Amid massive protests, the body of a schoolboy, who drowned last evening when allegedly chased by security forces in Noor Bagh locality of Srinagar, was fished out. Hundreds of people attended the funeral of Danish Sultan Haroo, a 12-year-old boy. As protests continued, in Baramulla district as many as sixty political workers and three Sarpanchs announced their resignation during a massive rally in Nadihal area, where a boy was killed in firing allegedly by Army, two days ago. Witnesses said thousands of people gathered in a local playground in the village where a massive anti-India rally was held. "62 activists of various pro-India political parties and three Sarpanches announced their resignation during the rally. All the activists said that they had resigned on their own and the decision was not taken under any pressure," the eyewitnesses said. A police handout this evening said at least 35 cases of stone pelting were reported from across the Valley. A spokesman of the Zonal Police Headquarters said stone pelting incidents were reported from Srinagar, Sopore, Anantnag, Pulwama, Shopian, Baramulla, Bandipora, Kulgam and Kupwara till the filing of this report. "At these places, after Friday prayers miscreants assembled on the roads and pelted stones on police and security force deployments," he said. Police said a Vocational Training Center at Watergam Sopore was set ablaze by unknown persons resulting in complete damage to the structure. |
