| Trade union leader kidnapping was ‘fake’ | | Police feeling political pressure, fears to register case | | Early Times Reporter

Police is believed to have solved the mystery behind kidnapping of Central India Trade Union (CITU) vice-president OP Sambyal; but because of some political pressure it is trying the hush-up the case. Sambyal is under the custody of Katra police, who is tightlipped over the issue.
However, sources believed that the CITU vice-president; in order to gain sympathy of the masses and to avoid paying back the money of some people that he had collected from them in the name of membership; has enacted the drama of his kidnapping. And, in the drama, his driver has also played a side-roll.
Sources informed that the entire drama was played under the influence of liquor but when he came to senses he realized his misdoing and informed the police about his whereabouts. Sources revealed that he had disclosed entire episode on these lines to the police but feeling some political pressure behind, the police is hesitant in taking any action against him and thus also has not registered the case against Sambyal.
Sources informed that OP Sambyal who claimed himself as vice-president of CITU confessed before the police that he had collected money from various people of Reasi, Katra and even laborers of Salal project promising them membership of his organization and assuring that he will represent them and will fight for their rights regarding wages and work conditions.
He said he had also assured the farmers whose land had come under railways project that he will try to provide them two lakh rupees per kanal as compensation and took money from them in lakhs of rupees as membership.
Giving details, sources added that Sambyal told police that behind creating the drama his main motive was to misguide the innocent people and to show them that kidnapper had taken away the money from him.
Sources told that on the day of kidnapping drama, he had consumed liquor at Salal and later went to Aghar Jittoo and consumed more liquor there at his friend’s residence where he created the story of his kidnapping and played the drama. Next day he informed the police that he is in Nud area of Samba where kidnappers have released him. Police had smelled a foul play in it and their doubt were cleared when he confessed before the police during interrogation.
