| Army orders inquiry in J&K purchase scam | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Sep 21 In yet another scam rocking the Northern Command, the Army has ordered a Court of Inquiry (COI) into procedural lapses in multi-crore purchase of ordnance stores. The General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Nagrota based 16 Corps, Lt Gen Tej Sapru, has been appointed presiding officer of the inquiry and the GOCs of two infantry divisions - 10 infantry division and 26 infantry division of the rank of major general, members, Army sources said. Defence Public Relations Officer, Jammu, Col SD Gowswami said "issue deals with procedural matter and nothing to do with misappropriation so far". The purchases were made during the tenure of Lt Gen Deepak Kapoor as Northern Command Chief, who is now Vice-chief and the Army Chief designate. The probe would look into the purchases of extendable frame supported tents, snow boots, coat parkas, igloos and jerseys. The vendor had supplied inferior quality of army tentage, unfit for usage by troops. The Northern Command is already under the scanner relating to allegations of egg procurement scam, ration scam in Leh, headgears and Siachen purchase scams, sexual misbehaviour of a top commander and cash for killing by some officers. In the Northern Command there is as many as nine court of inquiry against top army officers including two Lt Gens, four Major Generals, Brigadiers and Colonels.
