| JeM Distt Comdr, JCO killed in encounter | | Civilian injured in crossfire | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar|Sep 21 A District Commander of Jaish-e-Muhammad and a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) of army were killed in a fierce gun battle in Tral area of Pulwama district on Friday while a civilian was injured when militants opened fire on an army patrol party near Tehsildar Office at Pattan in Baramulla district of North Kashmir. Police and 50 Rashtriya Rifles eliminated a JeM militant in Lam forest area, where a JCO also sacrificed his life, an official spokesman said. Senior Superintendent of Police Awantipora, Sardar Khan said that police and army launched a joint operation in forest area of Lam-Zesbal in Tral, during the wee hours today. The operation was launched in association with 50RR and 10 Para regiment of Army, he added. When the troops were zeroing in on a militants' hideout, they came under heavy fire triggering a fierce gun battle. One JCO of army, who was leading to troops, from the front was hit by a bullet and was injured critically. He later succumbed to his injuries on way to the hospital. Khan said that one JeM militant was killed in the encounter, who was later identified as Jamal alias Bilal of Balochistan Pakistan. He was operating as District Commander of Jaish-e-Mohammed, he added. Meanwhile unidentified militants opened fire on troops near Tehsil Office Pattan in Baramulla district, this morning. The troops retaliated triggering a brief encounter, official, sources said adding, a West Bengal resident Azhar-ul-Haq son of Ab. Rehman was injured in the cross fire. Unidentified militants lobbed a hand grenade upon police guard at the residence of Muhammad Yousuf Peer at Wakoora, Ganderbal. The grenade, however, missed the target and exploded in mid air with a big bang. However, the guard on duty opened fire in air creating a panicky situation in the area. No loss of life and property has however reported.
