APD Meet: IATO suffers huge loss, demands setting up of special cell | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 5 : Asserting that the Kashmir unrest has affected the Tour Operators badly, the delegation of Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO) led by Capt Anil Gour apprised the All Party Delegation (APD) that the Travel & Tour Operators of Jammu region have suffered a whooping loss upto the tune of Rs 1 0000.00 Lakhs due to the extended turmoil in the valley. After meeting the delegation, Capt Anil Gour who led the tour operators delegation told media person that the delegation drew the attention of APD towards the tourism thrives on a peaceful atmosphere in and around the places of tourist importance. "Due to uncertain atmosphere in valley since July 8 and frequent suspension of Shri Amarnath Yatra affected not only the inflow of pilgrims but also the tourists which led to a spate of cancellations of the already booked packages & tours in Kashmir by the travel & tour operators on Jammu region," he added. "Apart from this there has been a continuous harassment faced by the Tourists and the Tour Operators by the miscreants in the valley since July 8, he said, "not only the tourist vehicles were damaged but even the tourists too were harassed by some elements further creating an uncertainty over travel sector. "The association appealed the APD to constitute a Grievance Cell at New Delhi under an Assistant Secretary or similar on the same lines as has been constituted for the Kashmiri students studying outside the valley- which will not only boost the confidence of the tourist & tour operators but also allow the Govt of India to monitor the situation by getting first-hand information of the ground, he said, adding, " we also have demanded suitable relief package for the Travel & Tour Industry to ameliorate their losses at the earliest. |
