Palmar residents protest against poor condition of Bandarkoot-Palmar Road

Kishtwar Sept 7: Annoyed over dilapidated condition of Bandarkoot-Palmar road, the residents of various areas of Palmar and its adjoining villages held a strong protest and blocked Kishtwar-Sinthan-Srinagar Road at Bandarkot, some 12 KM from Kishtwar town for hours together.
As per the details available with "Early Times", large number of people today early morning assembled at Bandarkot intersection and amid slogans against state government and concerned department blocked all the roads leading to different areas of Kishtwar to register their resentment over poor roiad condition.
Demanding immediate widening and black toping of 45 KM Kishtwar-Palmar road, the protestors said that the poor condition of the road has created lot of problems to the daily commuters traveling on this road and alleged successive government fails to maintain the condition of the road.
They said that due to poor condition of the road, large number of the people are facing asthma problem, beside back pain as the said road is full of pot holes.
Alleging sheer neglect of local at the hands of district administration, they also alleged that the agriculture land adjoining to the road was many time washed away due to non availability proper drainage system and further added water also enter into the homes causing inconvenience to the locals but the authorities have turned a blind eye towards their genuine problems.
"Despite repeated requests to the concerned department and to local MLA who also hold the charge of Minister of State, they said, till date nothing has been done in this regard.
They said that the construction of Kishtwar-Palmar-Dachhan road holds key for the economy of the state as it provides connectivity towards the prestigious 1000 MW Pakal-Dool power project.
"Successive governments have transferred the maintenance of road from one agency to another agency as a result of which it is still under construction since last over 40 years, they recalled.
Protestors also said that the government should expedite the process for early black topping of this road till the road widening project could be taken into the hands and threaten more protest in case the government fails to maintain the road.
Tehsildar Kishtwar Irshad Ahmed Butt immediately rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the protestors who refused to listen to him thus forcing the Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar to intervene.
On the demand of the angry protestors, DC Kishtwar Ghulam Nabi Balwan held talks with the protestors and assured the agitating people that matter will be brought into the notice of the government. He also informed them that the upgradation process of Kishtwar-Palmar-Patimhala road is at advance stage for which tendering process will be initiated within two weeks time.
On the assurance of DC Kishtwar, the people lifted their protest and then the normal traffic was restored.
