Provincial level elocution competition on Gandhian philosophy held

Emphasizing the relevance of Gandhian ideals in the present times, Minister of State for Higher and Technology Education Ajaz Ahmed Khan said that youth should lead a life inspired by Gandhiji’s ideals. The Minister was chief guest on a provincial level elocution competition on “Gandhian Philosophy of Truth and Non-Violence its Relevance in 21st Century” held at overnment College for Women, Gandhi Nagar Jammu here today.
Speaking on the occasion, Khan said that Gandhiji as Father of Nation always supported and followed peacefulness, tolerance and amity which would be a great weapon in the modern times. One representative each of all the 26 Government Degree Colleges of Jammu province participated in the event. The Ist, 2nd and 3rd and two IV prizes worth Rs.4000, Rs.3500, Rs.2500 and Rs.2500 respectively were won by Indu Bagal of GCW Gandhi Nagar, Tanveer Ahmed of GDC Bhaderwah, Chaman Lal of GDC Reasi, Shikha Bhat of GGM Science College Evening and Sunit Bhan of MAM College evening respectively. He appreciated and lauded the efforts of students into highlighting the relevance of Gandhian Philosophy in modern times.
Earlier, Principal, Government College Women Gandhi Nagar Jammu presented the welcome address and threw light on Gandhiji’s life and ideology.Commissioner/Secretary Higher Education Pramod Jain, Director Colleges Dr N D Wani were also present on the occasion.
In another function at Shri Maharaja Ranbir Higher Secondary School where Manjeet Singh Education Minister was the chief guest.
Director School Education, Jammu, A.K Raina, Ex Vice-Chancellor of Jammu University, M.R Puri, Chief Education Officer Jammu, Principals and Headmasters of respective Higher Secondary and High Schools and other senior citizens were also present on the occasion.
In order to create awareness among the students and common people about the importance of Gandhian Philosophy of Truth, a debate competition was held in which 21Higher Secondary and High Schools of Jammu province participated. Each educational institution was represented by one participant.
On the occasion, Minister said that these competitions among school students would be held at zonal, district, provincial and state level and in case of college students at district, provisional and state level. He said the government has approved simple Hindi and Urdu languages for the competition. He said that the successful participants would move forward to the next level of competition until the final state level debate to be held among the finalists on Gandhi Jayanti on October 2.
In the competition Kudsia Khan of 10th class of Government Higher Secondary School, Surankote bagged 1st position, Sophian of 12th class of Government Girls Higher Secondary School Shastri Nagar bagged 2nd position, while Srishty Sen of 12th class of Government HSS Kishtwar and Baber Hussian of 11th class of GHSS Bhadarwah bagged 3rd and 4th position respectively.
