| Father, son sent to judicial lock up | | ‘Evaded Rs.5.62 lakh tax’ | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Sep 22 Small Causes Judge has sent Mohammed Sidiq Ranga son of Noor Mohammed and his son Asif Sidiq owners of Oriental Transport Company to judicial lock up after the duo were charge sheeted by the Crime Branch in case under FIR NO 18/2004 under section 420,467,468,120 B RPC of police Station Crime Branch Srinagar. Giving details of the case, a spokesman of the Crime Branch said Commissioner Sales Tax in a complaint alleged that goods worth lakhs of rupees have been exported by the owners of the Oriental Goods Transport and Jhelum Road Lines by misusing CST/GST Number of a firm namely M/S Hamid and Co Hawal Srinagar thereby evading tax. The preliminary enquiry conducted into the matter revealed that consignments imported through Jhelum Road Lines have been genuinely imported while as the owners of Oriental Transport Company hatched a criminal conspiracy to import goods worth lakhs of rupees by misusing the GSC/CST number of Hamid and Co. making its owner liable for payment of taxes, the spokesman said adding that a formal case was registered for in depth investigation. The spokesman said that during the course of investigation records relevant to the case were seized from the concerned quarters and persons acquainted with the fact of the case were put to thorough examination. During investigation it transpired that owners of Oriental Transport Company prepared fake documents and misused GST/CST in order to cheat the officials of the Sales Tax check post Lakhanpur thereby evading tax to the tune of Rs.5,62,892 causing loss to the state exchequer. On the basis of the available evidence, charge sheet was produced against them before the concerned court where the Judge sent both the accused to judicial lock up.
