| Interstate car lifter gang busted, one arrested | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Sep 22 Gandhi Nagar police today busted a car lifter gang and arrested one person and recovered two cars from his possession while another gangster managed to give a slip. SP South Zahid Manhas said police received specific information that some Punjab based car lifters are on way to Jammu from Punjab. On receipt of this information, he said, a police team led by SHO Mohd Rafiq Manhas laid a naka in Last Morh area and during checking stopped a Marauti car bearing Punjab registration number for checking and asked the driver to produce the documents. As the driver failed to produce the documents and in the meantime one more Alto car with Punjab registration Number that was following the maruti car, diverted his car and ran away towards Gandhi Nagar. Police suspecting foul play, chased the car and after a hot chase, the car was found parked at Nehru Market area near the RTO office but person, driving the car managed to escape from the spot. Police have seized both the vehicles bearing numbers PB08AY/3212 and PB07P/0227 and arrested Rajnish son of Mohinder Paul resident of Adampur, Jullander and took him to police station for further interrogation. Sources said during interrogation, he told police that the gang had stolen one car from Jullander and the other from Hoshiarpur and they were on way to Jammu for handing over these vehicles to their associate from Kashmir. He also told police the name of the other car lifter who was on way to Jammu with him from Punjab with Alto car as Balbir Singh alias Bunty son of Chanan Singh resident Adampur. Sources said police after receiving information informed to Punjab police and a Punjab police team be visiting here tomorrow. Police has also registered a case in this regard and is investigating the matter.
