| CM's brother has 31 JDA allotments cancelled | | Housing deptt becomes new battleground, Govt orders inquiry | | Early Times Reporter Jammu|Sep 22 Even as the dirty linen was yet shed its stain on the forest department, the Housing and Urban Development department has become yet another battle ground for beating corruptions and settling personal scores among the coalition partners –Peoples Democratic Party and the Congress. After a sustained media campaign nailing the claims of transparency and accountability on the manner in which Chief Minister's brother was allotted a prime commercial property in the business hub of Bahu Plaza, the government has cancelled all allotments made in the recent years. It was not only one particular allotment in favour of the Chief Minister's brother but even those made during the stewardship of the Peoples Democratic Party before 2005 too have been cancelled in a single go. Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has ordered cancellation of allotment of 31 shops and halls made by Jammu Development Authority in recent years allegedly without following the procedure for allotment. Talking with media persons after addressing a public meeting at Khour today, the Chief Minister said that he has issued instructions to cancel the allotment of shops and halls in Bahu Plaza following newspaper reports that Jammu Development Authority had flouted the procedure. Sources said that an inquiry too has been initiated to find out as how allotments of halls worth millions of rupees were made on the political considerations. Sources further informed that one of the allottees whose allotment was cancelled today was a close relative of the former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. It is learnt that all these halls had been allotted to the political connected people in violation of norms. Interestingly, after Forests, the Peoples Democratic Party and the Congress have made the Housing and Urban Development department as their battlefield. It is learnt that the writ filed in the High Court against allotment to the Chief Minister's brother had been done at behest of the Peoples Democratic Party leaders. However, when the Chief Minister has announced inquiry into all cases this takes into sweeping account two PDP leaders Qaazi Mohammad Afzal and his predecessors in the department Tariq Hamid Qarra and Ghulam Hassan Mir
