| Charak for better road & traffic management | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Sep 23 In view of holy month of Ramzan, forthcoming Navaratras and Darbar move, Minister for R&B, Mr Gulchain Singh Charak convened a high level meeting at Institute of Engineers, Gandhi Nagar here, today to ensure proper coordination between various departments dealing with traffic management and up keeping of roads in and around Jammu city. The meeting was attended by Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Mr Sudhanshu Pandey, Chief Engineer R&B (PWD), Chief Engineer PHE, Municipal Commissioner, Jammu, Project Director ERA, Superintending Engineer PWD, DIG Traffic, Project Manager ERA, Additional DC, Jammu, SSP Traffic and Executive Engineers of various departments. The development activities being under taken by Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA), UEED, PHE, Municipality and PWD (R&B) departments in Jammu city and peripheral areas were deliberated upon in the meeting and emphasis was laid on early completion of schemes to avoid cost escalation and ensuring public convenience. . Stressing on close coordination between different executing agencies for proper implementation of schemes .Mr Charak asked the ERA representatives to remove the bottlenecks in the execution of various projects and work in double and triple shifts in order to complete all the restoration and renovation works by October 8, 2007 so that people do not face any inconvenience during the festivals. Holding threadbare discussions on proper management of vehicular traffic, it was also decided to constitute a task force comprising of Traffic Police Department, Municipality, PWD and Revenue officers for checking road sides washing and repair of vehicles so that roads of the city present a neat and clean look. The Minister also desired beautification of roads especially around the Temples, Masjids, Gurudwaras and Churches. Charak directed PWD and Traffic department officers to conduct a joint inspection of various roads for making minor improvements in some stretches which can give a great relief to road users with small financial implications.
