After getting stung by the actions of the defaulters, through which the BSNL had suffered a huge losses, it has now decided to recover the pending dues running into crores of rupees by engaging goons
According to the sources in the BSNL there are around 20,000 major defaulters listed by the department against whom huge out standings running into crores of rupees are pending on account of land line phones. The BSNL has the maximum number of land line users in the state and had been the only service provider before the advent of private players in the field.
The sources said that citing the examples of other private players present in this filed, BSNL has decided to hire goons to get recovered its dues from the defaulters. In order to legalize the term goons the department has named them as ‘recovery agents’. This decision is being taking by the department by floating all norms .
In order to get its outstanding recovered from the defaulters, the BSNL is planning to take the help of goons and the tenders in this regard have already been floated and would be opened soon, said sources. ‘The recovery agents’ which would be hired by the department will be now responsible for recovery of the dues from these defaulters and the department in turn would be grant a hefty part of this income as ‘Commission’ to these commissioning agents’. Sources also revealed that these goons or so called recovery agents can break all the laws during recovery and this may create problems for defaulters.
The tenders for recovery agents which were received by the BSNL department mostly belong to criminal background and many cases are registered against them in various police stations. How they collect dues from the defaulters one can easily make guess as sources added.
When contacted a senior BSNL officer said that department has issued notice asking the defaulters to clear their outstandings pending since long. ‘If the defaulters did not respond positively within the given time, the recovery agents would be asked to go in for recovering the outstanding from the defaulters’, the officer added .
