| Surgeon uses govt accommodation as clinic | | Being kin of CM, norms do not matter to him | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Sept 23 Charity begins at home – is an age old adage. Yet it seems that it needs to be reminded to those at helm of affairs in governance. Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, who always stresses upon good-governance and weeding out corruption in administration besides advising officials not to misuse their powers, is perhaps the most eligible to be given the aide-memoire. Azad’s close relative – a doctor who is a surgeon and head of a unit of the department at GMC Hospital has allegedly not only thrown all norms to winds but also not cared to give heed to the norms laid down by his kin-in-power. Perhaps taking advantage of his proximity with the Chief Minister, this surgeon is learnt to have converted the residential quarter allotted to him into a full-fledged clinic. Sources in the GMC informed that he frequently tells his patient at the hospital to come over to his private clinic for consultation and treatment. Sources also disclosed that the said surgeon being a close relative of the CM enjoys authority in the corridors of secretariat and health ministry and thus hardly cares to follow the rules. While those who attempt to stop him from misusing his official or unofficial powers are threatened to be transferred or suspended. Sources revealed that the doctor has even constructed a building of his own in the premises of the allotted accommodation. They added that even the accommodation that he enjoys was allotted to him out of the way. The independent accommodations are meant for HoD under rules, but the said surgeon using his influence had managed to get this accommodation for himself, sources added.
